PETITION: Support a fair deal for Residence Life workers at McMaster University (CUPE 3906 Unit 4)

PETITION: Support a fair deal for Residence Life workers at McMaster University (CUPE 3906 Unit 4)
This petition is intended to be signed by students, families, alumni, and employees of McMaster University. Please read below for the full language of the petition, click the link and add your signature.
The employees of the Department of Residence Life (CUPE Local 3906 Unit 4) are the backbone of the First-Year Experience at McMaster University. These workers are essential to creating the safe, supportive, and inclusive living environments that parents, families, and students trust when they invest in the residence experience.
Despite the essential nature of their work, these employees are subject to a number of harmful practices, including but not limited to:
  • Hazardous working conditions, including mould, bed bug and insect infestations, among other environmental hazards;
  • Frequent incidents of workplace harassment and sexual violence, posing significant risks to the health and well-being of Residence Life workers; and
  • Below average compensation compared to similar roles at other Ontario institutions.
